Seaworthy Blog

While walking through Portland neighborhoods, you can peek at fresh herbs and veggies bursting from almost every yard. While the random days of sun...then rain...then sun…then sun and rain all at once (?!), may make Portland residents feel a bit nuts, our gardens, LOVE IT. Tomatoes. Basil. Peppers. Mint. Dill. Rosemary. YUM. The abundance of these spring treats inspired us! A beautiful way to introduce our handmade Cocktail Picks is to adorn them with our garden goodies. What's the perfect cocktail to adorn with these spring treats? The Bloody Mary.

Busy as our weeks may be, we somehow still find time to make all the pretty pieces from start to finish AND make Bloody Mary's (its a rough life.) We infused vodka with dill from Marisa's yard and Serrano from, well, our neighborhood Whole Foods. The peppers in my yard still need a good month of sunshine. We then made a simple, yet tasty Blood Mary mix and...viola!!

Serrano and Dill Infused Vodka

Make sure you have a glass bottle or jar (we bought ours here) for infusion and storage or you can use the vodka bottle itself.

1-2 Serano Peppers diced

A few springs of Dill

Bottle of vodka.

Let infuse for 24 hours or more. Strain with cheesecloth when ready to use. We did ours for 24 hours because peppers do not need much time to spice that vodka. You can choose to leave them in. Just remember, the longer they are in the hotter the vodka will be!

Bloody Mary Mix

32 oz Tomato Juice

1-2 tbs pressed or chopped Garlic

2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce.

1 tbsp Ground Black Pepper

1 tbsp Horseradish

1-2 tsp Red Pepper Flake

1 tsp celery salt

1 tsp lime juice

Combine all ingredients in a pitcher or jar and stir until well mixed.

Seaworthy Spicy Bloody Mary

Fill a glass with ice, add 2 ounces infused vodka and then fill the rest of the way with mix. Garnish a Seaworthy Cocktail Pick with olives, jack cheese cubes, peppers, a clove of garlic, a lime wedge, and pickled tomatoes (from Marisa's yard).** Then make 2 or 4 more for your friends...or yourself. We don't judge!

*My local store has vegan worcestershire sauce options or you can use something like Braggs instead. **Quick pickle recipe for any veggie here.
